Schumacher Fund for Dissertation Research in Education

The Schumacher Fund for Dissertation Research was established in 2000 by Dr. Sally Schumacher, in memory of her parents, Dr. and Mrs. F. X. Schumacher. Dr. Schumacher taught at Duke University’s School of Forestry and co-authored the first textbook in forest mensuration. After a career in public service, Dr. Sally Schumacher’s mother served as the Director of Student Health at the Duke University School of Nursing. Dr. Sally Schumacher was the first full-time faculty member in educational research and evaluation with specialization in qualitative methods at VCU’s School of Education. The Schumacher Fund provides financial assistance to doctoral students in the School of Education who are undertaking dissertations.
