VCUarts Undergraduate Research Grant

VCUarts Undergraduate Research Grants encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration and promote faculty-student mentorship. VCUarts full-time undergraduate students graduating AFTER December 2025 are eligible to apply. Applicants should be seeking funding to complete research or creative work that is interdisciplinary, involving student collaboration and drawing on the expertise of a faculty mentor. Recipients can receive up to $2,500 in grant funding to develop an interdisciplinary project. A VCUarts student must submit the proposal but can collaborate on a project with a student from any other major attending VCU full-time. Spending on your project should be completed no later than May 31st.

  5. Faculty Mentor - Upload documentation showing a VCUarts full-time faculty member has agreed to serve as your mentor for this project. This can be an email, letter, etc. PLEASE NOTE: There can only be ONE faculty mentor for your project.
  6. Short Synopsis - In no more than 100 words, summarize your project. Briefly describe your idea/product/service, your intended audience and what you hope to accomplish. This will be used for advertising your grant on our website, if chosen.
  7. Project Narrative - See instructions below the text box. Be sure to include all information being requested.
  8. Project Timeline Template - Download this *PROJECT TIMELINE TEMPLATE*. Update the spreadsheet with all the key dates of progress toward the final outcome of your project, including the date you expect your project to be complete (i.e. performance or exhibition date, etc). After you have completed your project timeline, save it, then upload it back into your application. Keep in mind all funds MUST be spent by May 31st.
  9. Budget Template - Download this *BUDGET TEMPLATE*. Update the spreadsheet with all assumed costs for your proposed project. This includes supplies, materials, professional services, entry fees, flights, meals, lodging, other transportation, etc. Be realistic in your numbers. After you have completed your budget, save it, then upload it back into your application.
