Akira Ouchi Graphic Design Scholarship

The Akira Ouchi Graphic Design Scholarship was established in 2008 by Mrs. Michi Ouchi. The scholarship honors the memory of her husband, Akira Ouchi, a graphic design professor at the School of the Arts. The School of the Arts awards the Ouchi scholarship to deserving students in the Department of Graphic Design.

Professor Ouchi taught in the Graphic Design department from 1982-2003. He was born in Tokyo, worked as a designer throughout his career in major studios both in the US and Japan. His love of the Chicago Cubs, Mozart, classic films and fishing was legendary. Design was a way of life for Professor Ouchi. This scholarship pays tribute to an educator who influenced a generation of artists, designers and educators.
