Charles and Leann Blem Scholarship in Biology

The Charles and Leann Blem Scholarship is awarded to a rising junior or senior who is majoring in biology with specific interest in vertebrates, vertebrate ecology or vertebrate anatomy. The scholarship may also be awarded to a student who has done research in the department of biology with emphasis in those areas; a pre-veterinary or professional student who plans to attend graduate school; or any athletes who are biology majors. Students who have received guaranteed medical school admission or other scholarship awards are ineligible.

The Blem family has a strong legacy in the VCU College of Humanities and Sciences. Charles and Leann Blem’s enjoyed 32 years of teaching in the Department of Biology. Both children Dr. Robert Blem (BS ’93/H&S and MD ’97/M) and Dr. Karen Blem Killeen (BS ’90/H&S) are graduates of the College, held presidential scholarships and both won the Biology Department Outstanding Student Award. Additionally, son-in-law Sean Killeen (BS ’90/B) is a graduate of the School of Business.
