The Markel Scholarship will be awarded to full-time undergraduate juniors, who qualify for institutional, state, and/or federal financial aid, have a GPA of 3.0 or better (from either VCU or their transferring institution), and are pursuing a business degree or an engineering degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering. The preferred ratio of recipients shall be 2:1 business to engineering.

Preference will be given to students who exhibit the qualities of The Markel Style: honesty and fairness, a commitment to success and the spirit of teamwork to achieve success, a zealous pursuit of excellence, and a commitment to one’s community. The award is eligible for a one-time renewal for a student’s full-time undergraduate senior year, contingent on available funds and the student meeting all other eligibility criteria described in this agreement. Part-time seniors qualify for renewal, if their part-time status is a result of meeting all graduation requirements at the end of the semester.
