Claire McCarthy Recreation Scholarship

The Claire McCarthy Recreation Scholarship was established to honor Claire McCarthy, one of the first graduates of the recreation curriculum. She also served in the Richmond Department of Recreation and Parks for many years. Following her death in 1964, members of the community established this scholarship fund for outstanding upper-level recreation majors. Applicants must be enrolled as full-time Recreation, Parks, and Sport Leadership majors and have completed 60 or more credit hours prior to the semester of the award. Students must also have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 in both major and overall course work and be able to demonstrate motivation, need, and suitability for a career in recreation.
