James O. Hodges Scholarship

The James O. Hodges Scholarship was established by the Hodges family and friends. Dr. Hodges served the School of Education from 1974-1995, where he spent his entire career preparing teachers in elementary education. In 1993, he became the first recipient of the school’s Charles P. Ruch Award for teaching excellence. Dr. Hodges was awarded emeritus status upon retirement in 1995. The James O. Hodges Scholarship fund is awarded annually based on financial need and a demonstrated commitment to serving students in elementary education. Students selected must demonstrate significant involvement with Student Virginia Education Association (SVEA) in their application. Preference is given to students who have held leadership roles within SVEA.
