James Bradford Scholarship in Painting + Printmaking

The James Bradford Scholarship was established in 1997, in memory of Painting and Printmaking faculty member James Bradford. Bradford was a well-known painter in the Richmond arts community and a longtime painting faculty member. More than just a painter and teacher, he was also an entrepreneur. He, along with friends Joseph Seipel and Lester and Donna VanWinkle, owned the famed fan watering hole the Texas-Wisconsin Border Cafe, the sale of which helped to endow the James Bradford Scholarship. The Bradford scholarship rotates between the departments of Painting and Printmaking and Sculpture and is awarded based on demonstrated commitment to an area of study, potential for a career in the arts, and academic achievement.
