John A. Van de Walle Scholarship

The John A. Van de Walle Scholarship was established in 2002 by family, friends, and colleagues. The late Dr. John A. Van de Walle is noted as one of the most renowned mathematics educators in the country. Dr. Van de Walle spent most of his career at the VCU School of Education where he was Professor Emeritus and taught mathematics education to pre-service and in-service teachers for 29 years. This scholarship is awarded based on financial need and academic merit to students in the Elementary Education Master of Teaching Program who demonstrate a strong interest in mathematics education. In addition, students in the K-8 Mathematics Specialist Program, who are not recipients of National Science Foundation funding, are also eligible to apply.
